Popular ECO energy program has been extended by the federal government for one year until March 31, 2012. Program details were announced by NRCan on July 13. Both new and returned customers may participate in this program. In order to be eligible for the ECO energy evaluation, everyone must register on the NRCan web site. Today 17 percent of all energy used in Canada goes toward running our homes. Every time we use energy from fossils fuels such as coal, oil and gas, greenhouse gas emissions are produced. By using less energy in our homes, we help reduce these emissions which contribute to climate change. The Government of Canada is asking all Canadians to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by one tonne or 20 percent. By making your home more energy efficient, you can make your contribution to help protect our environment. The ECO Energy Retrofit for Houses service offers homeowners individualized advice from an independent third-party professional, on how to improve the energy performance of their home. You will be provided with a detailed ECO Energy Retrofit for Houses report and recommendations on how to reduce your heating cost and improve the energy efficiency of your house.
Yuri Olhovsky is NRCan Certified Energy Advisor.
